WeatherGPX: accurate weather along your GPX or Google Maps route

Who hasn't experienced this mishap? You set off on a trip or a fairly long hike, and along the way, the weather plays tricks on you?

I experienced this myself on my way back from a trip. On one side of the mountain pass, the weather was superb, and once we crossed to the other side, there was snow! To best avoid such mishaps, there's now software that forecasts the weather along your route, which, aside from extraordinary weather conditions, is a real plus for our travels!

WeatherGPX is a free web tool (with a paid option) designed to provide accurate weather forecasts along a GPX or Google Maps route, not just at the starting point.

It works on both PCs and smartphones.

How does it work?

1. You upload a GPX file (or paste a Google Maps URL).

2. You enter your departure time and your realistic average speed (hiking, cycling, motorcycling, driving, etc.).

3. The tool calculates your estimated arrival times at each point along the route and gives you the weather forecast (temperature, wind, precipitation, etc.) at the exact moment you arrive there.

It can display up to 16 days of forecasts.

Key features

• Very useful for hikers, cyclists (road/gravel), motorcyclists, and even road trips: you know if you'll encounter rain on a mountain pass, a headwind on a particular section, etc.

• "Area" mode if you don't have a GPX file: you can simply explore the map and get the local weather.

• Best departure finder: it automatically suggests the 5 best departure times for the coming days.

• Works worldwide (powered by OpenMeteo). • Offline: Your tracks and uploaded data remain accessible without an internet connection.

Free vs. Paid Version

• Free: 5 weather points along the route + 4 points in area mode, all stored locally on your device, no account required.

• Subscription (approximately €1.50/month or €12/year): Up to 25 points along the route, 20 in area mode, cloud synchronization across all your devices.

Background

This is a personal project developed by a hiker/motorcyclist who was tired of traditional forecasts (a single city or a vague point) when riding in the mountains or off-road. It's accessible directly at weathergpx.com (you can even add it as a web app to your phone).
If you often go on rides where the weather changes frequently, this is a really clever and easy-to-use tool!
