BMW F450GS review: a little GS that completely blew me away!

This Saturday morning, I headed to Lejeune Motosport in Bastogne for the BMW Tests. On the agenda: the new BMW F450GS.
I was expecting a pleasant surprise… but frankly, I didn't expect to be so blown away.

First Impressions
From the very first meters, you immediately feel the difference.
Weighing in at just 178 kg fully fueled, the motorcycle is disconcertingly light. It's easy to position, it changes direction, it's almost imperceptible… in short, it's exceptionally maneuverable.

But what struck me most was the torque.
On paper, 43 Nm for a 420cc engine might seem reasonable. In reality, it's simply incredible. The engine pulls hard, very hard, and especially very early. You feel like you have a much larger engine between your legs.

Technical specifications (summary)
• Engine: 420cc parallel twin
• Power: 48 hp at 8,750 rpm
• Torque: 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm
• Wet weight: 178 kg
• Seat height: 845 mm
• Fuel tank capacity: 14 liters
• Claimed fuel consumption: 3.8 L/100 km
For a motorcycle accessible with an A2 license, the power-to-weight ratio and especially the available torque are truly impressive.

What I loved
• The lightness and ease of handling
• The engine's character (you can really feel the twin-cylinder)
• The equipment: this is clearly a true GS, not just an entry-level adventure bike
• The overall feel: you feel confident very quickly
It really has everything you need. Not too much, not too little. Just what you need to have fun on the road and on trails.

My verdict
The BMW F450GS genuinely surprised me.

It's a light, torquey, maneuverable, and well-equipped motorcycle. It perfectly embodies the GS spirit in an accessible and modern format.
If you're still hesitating between several adventure bikes, I highly recommend you go and try it out. I came away with a smile… and a strong desire to go back.
